This Thursday, March 22nd is our monthly pack meeting. I would like to ask everyone in the pack to remember to bring a food item for the ICA. As most have noticed this week, there is a trailer at Cub Foods where as the ICA is trying to get into the Guinness World record for food donation. We did fantastic back in December with over 160 lbs collected. Let's see if we can top that donation and help the ICA set a record. This is our ongoing community service project whereas the scouts have the opportunity to give back to the community that we live in. Thank you for your continued support of this project. See everyone Thursday evening.
As the Cubmaster for the pack, my goal is try to make the pack meetings fun with an educational aspect to them. What I am looking for right now is some new and exciting ideas for programs for our pack meetings. Do you know a family member or friend who has an interesting and fun hobby or vocation? Would they be willing to share this with our scouts? In the past, we've had a bee keeper, a salvage diver, martial arts instructor, a civil war historian, a race car mechanic. We've reached out in the community and have had the Minnetonka K-9 detail, the recycling manager from the city and the Hennepin County Sheriff's water patrol. I am building ideas for next years scouting year, but I am still looking for something for the last 2 pack meetings of this year. I have contacted several folks and organizations, but to date, I haven't heard back from them so I'm still looking. Any ideas to share would be greatly welcomed. Thank you for your help and for participating in the scouting program.
I really want to thank all of the families for coming out to our annual Blue & Gold banquet. Whether it was helping out with one of the many tasks that's required to hold this event or if you were there to just help celebrate and help recognize your scout for his accomplishments, I "Thank You" so very much. Being able to award the scouts with their rank badges is a huge privilege for me. Although this was my 18th Blue & Gold, it still feels special to me. The hardest part for me is saying good-by to the 5th grade Webelos and wishing them well on their next adventure trail of scouting. Many of them I met at the Groveland school, 4+ years ago and introduced them to scouting. It's been fun watching each and every one of them grow up. The biggest honor for me is when I attend an Eagle Court of Honor for a scout that I had the privilege of welcoming to scouting as a Tiger. To see a young man mature from Tiger scout to Eagle scout is one of life's greatest gifts. I thank each family for being a part of this wonderful program and helping this program to move forward. I thank you as a parent and as your Cubmaster. I look forward to many more Blue & Gold's and having fun with the scouts of Pack #426.
Be sure to look closely at the cover of your current issue of Scouting for Parents to see our very own Pack 426 Tiger, Nicholas, in action at the Lake Minnetonka District Coaster Cart Derby.
I hope you and your scouts are having a great holiday. As I mentioned during the December Pack meeting we are trying to secure a time for our Pack to participate in an exciting volunteer project.
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding hungry children by providing hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. The organization currently provides food to nearly 70 countries around the world. (see link to website below).
The good problem is there is such a demand for volunteering that they are booked out for Saturdays through the end of the school year.
The next best option appears to be Friday, March 2nd from 2:30 - 4:30pm in Chanhassen. This day is a school holiday if you scout is in the Minnetonka public schools.
We need to book this ASAP. As such I would appreciate if I could get some feedback if parents/families think this day/time would be an option.
To reiterate, we anticipated that no time will work for everyone, but hoping this will work for most.
